Our Story.
“Can you come pick me up early?”
It was our daughter, Marin, on the other line.
She was attending her confirmation retreat.
A retreat that now seemed more an obligation to her than a celebration of faith.
In recent years, Marin had battled a shadow that dimmed her once vibrant spirit - debilitating depression had led her to question the very beliefs we thought we had instilled so deeply.
At that moment, my husband and I exchanged a look, a silent acknowledgement of the repeating pattern we feared.
We thought we had done everything right.
Attending mass on Sundays
Praying before family meals and bedtime
Guiding our children through every sacrament
Yet here we were, watching our children slowly drift away from their faith.
As Jim drove to the retreat to pick her up, his heart heavy, he prayed for guidance, for a sign.
“What more could we do?”
The answer came unexpectedly when he arrived to the retreat center.
The Life Teen Leader’s voice carried across the crowd. “Never let a struggle go to waste,” he said.
The ride home felt different.
Between shared stories, quiet reflections, laughter and tears, something changed.
Their conversation ignited a spark.
In the weeks that followed, Jim started helping out with Life Teen, and Marin re-engaged with her faith community, actively joining in her parish’s Life Teen Ministry.
This journey led Jim and me to a realization:
As parents, we are not alone.
Many Catholic families share our struggles, navigating the modern challenges of raising children in our faith today. We saw a need for a deeper community connection. A platform where families could gather, share their trials and triumphs, and grow deeper in faith.
And so, Modern Catholic Family was born.
A space for those seeking to weave their faith into everyday family life, reminding us all that we are stronger together in Christ.
Thank you for being on this faith-filled journey with us.
